Conor McGregor has once again teased a UFC return with a fresh call-out to rival Michael Chandler.
The 36-year-old hasn’t competed in the Octagon since breaking his leg in his trilogy bout defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
McGregor and Chandler could finally come to blows – a year after their scheduled fight fell throughGettyHe had been scheduled to make his long-awaited return last summer to face Chandler at UFC 303.
However, the Irishman was forced to withdraw from the contest having suffered a broken toe just two weeks before the main event.
The duo have plenty of history having coached on opposing teams in the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter, but they failed to come to blows at the end as McGregor was still recovering from his initial tibia and fibula fracture.
It was only last month that Chandler demanded a bout with McGregor should the Notorious finally make a comeback.
Almost two weeks after Chandler’s comments, McGregor then released fresh training footage, where he looked in tip-top shape.
And now McGregor has laid down the gauntlet for a future fight in 2025.
Taking to X on Tuesday night, the two-weight UFC champion posted: “IRON MIKE CHANDLER. Unfinished business.”
Though McGregor clarified his return depends solely on one factor… him competing at a stadium in front of a packed out crowd.
McGregor reacted to footage of the two-day WrestleMania 41 event last weekend, which took place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
He simply stated: “I’ll only come back to a stadium.”
McGregor has been inactive since his defeat to rival Poirier four years agoGetty A fight to settle his feud with Chandler remains on the Notorious’ mindGETTYHis call-out comes just over a week after he lost $500,000 on backing Chandler to beat British star Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314.
The Liverpudlian pummelled the Missouri native to secure a third-round TKO victory in what was a career-best performance.
Still, Chandler’s defeat has had no impact on McGregor’s quest to settle his long-running feud with the American.
Despite having two fights left on his UFC deal, fans haven’t held much hope that they will see McGregor grace the Octagon once more.
Even Pimblett holds reservations over the southpaw specialist ever returning when asked whether he is keen to exchange leather with him.
He said: “I don’t think he is coming back. He’s got enough money, he doesn’t need to come back.
McGregor hasn’t recorded a victory since his first-round stoppage win over Donald Cerrone in 2020Getty Images“But if he does that, then the Baddy is waiting for him.”
And should McGregor finally meet Chandler, fans have already been given an idea of how it could pan out following a simulation of the contest on EA Sports UFC 5.
Unfortunately for McGregor, it didn’t end well, with referee Herb Dean stepping in to wave away the fight in the fourth round.
