Equalities minister and Education Secretary Bridget Philipson told MPs the Government will protect women-only spaces, including NHS wards.
But she said “the rights of all people with protected characteristics” – both transgender people and women – would be defended “now and always”.
She said the government would also “end the practice of mixed-sex wards once and for all”.
“It is not just in our NHS that we will act on behalf of women. In prisons, we will continue to protect women’s safety with single-sex accommodation.”
Phillipson said: “The basis for NHS provisions of all kinds will be on the basis of biological sex.”
The government has recommitted to a trans-inclusive ban on conversion therapy practices.
In the ruling last week, Supreme Court clarified the terms “woman” and “sex” in the 2010 Equality Act “refer to a biological woman and biological sex”.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said A woman is an “adult female” in what appeared to be a shift in his previous position on the issue.
He had previously said “trans women are women” but declined to repeat the phrase when asked, saying instead: “I think the Supreme Court has answered that question.”
“I actually welcome the judgment because I think it gives real clarity. It allows those that have got to draw up guidance to be really clear about what that guidance should say.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch accused Labour of being “so desperate to jump on a bandwagon that they abandoned common sense” on gender and sex.
“I know what a woman is and I always have. The people of this country know what a woman is. We didn’t need the Supreme Court to tell us that, but this Government did – a Labour Government so desperate to jump on a bandwagon that they abandoned common sense.”
