Turki Alalshikh teases Simon Jordan with hilarious dig as pair meet for first time ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh jokingly claimed he ‘agreed on nothing’ after finally coming face-to-face with Simon Jordan.

Alalshikh has impacted the global boxing scene on a huge scale, putting together high-profile fights including Tyson Fury’s two battles with Oleksandr Usyk.

The chairman of Saudi Arabia’s general entertainment authority also played an instrumental part in orchestrating Anthony Joshua’s clash with Daniel Dubois last September, where the former suffered a devastating knockout at Wembley in front of 86,000 people.

He also recently partnered with UFC CEO Dana White and TKO Group Holdings to launch a new boxing league.

Alalshikh has phoned talkSPORT plenty of times to joke around with Jordan, and it seems the two have now struck up a friendship.

“Good meeting with my brother Simon, we agreed on nothing,” Alalshiksh posted on X, taking a cheeky dig at Jordan.

He has previously invited Jordan to Saudi Arabia after the talkSPORT host was banned from attending Tyson Fury’s fight with Francis Ngannou.

The ban came after Jordan made critical comments following the collapse of Fury’s contest with Usyk in 2023.

The pair may have been discussing Jordan’s arrival in the Middle East, but there’s no doubt boxing was at the forefront of their conversation.

On Saturday night, Chris Eubank Jr faces Conor Benn in a British boxing spectacle.

Saudi boxing chief Alalshikh helped strike a deal between both men as they are set to trade leather at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, 35 years after their legendary fathers exchanged blows in the ring.

However, not all boxing enthusiasts share the same level of excitement for the fight, particularly Jordan, who remains dismissive of the all-British affair.

He has stuck to his guns in his opinion, saying that although he understands the demand for the fight, Eubank Jr is ‘a charlatan’ at world level, and boxing shouldn’t tolerate the aftermath of Benn’s drug failures.

Benn tested positive for the female fertility drug and banned substance clomiphene in 2022 before his original scheduled bout with Eubank.

He has since been cleared to make a return to the ring in Britain after battling with the UK Anti-Doping (UkAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) for two years, as UKAD failed to prove that the boxer had committed a doping offence.

“He didn’t get fully cleared,” Jordan said during a heated row with Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn in December.

“No one has explained how he got a failed drug test…”

Nonetheless, Eubank Jr vs Benn has the potential to slot straight in as an early Fight of the Year contender.

Eubank Jr boasts a pro record of 34-3, while Benn is undefeated in 23Getty

Benn is making his inaugural appearance at middleweight having previously fought at welterweight and super welterweight during his pro career.

He has declared that he will get Eubank Jr out inside four rounds to right the wrongs of his father, Nigel Benn‘s, defeat to Chris Eubank Sr.

Eubank Jr, on the other hand, is cutting weight down to 160lbs for the grudge match, and has admitted that the process has been tough.

Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook recognised that weight may be an issue for Eubank Jr, but is still backing the IBO middleweight titleholder to get the job done.

“I’ve got Eubank to win,” he told talkSPORT. “I think just with his size, but I don’t know because the weight’s an issue.

“What’s it going to have took out of Eubank when he gets in the ring?

“We’re going to have to wait and see, but I just slightly favour towards Eubank in this fight just because he’s boxed on a bigger level.

“For me, Conor’s not really boxed at that level as of yet.”
