Although The Elder Scrolls 6 doesn’t seem to be anywhere near releasing, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is back to keep us going.
For the past few weeks, the Oblivion remaster has been the worst-kept secret in gaming, with the game even leaking on its developer’s website.
So, if you’re interested in when the Oblivion remaster releases and what’s new in the game, read on!
When is the predicted Oblivion remaster release date?
The Oblivion Remaster releases at 4pm BST on 22nd April 2025.
It was originally touted to release on 21st April, as claimed by Game Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb announced on the 14th April edition of his Game Mess Mornings stream, confirming that Bethesda and Xbox were planning on shadow dropping the game.
Bethesda then scheduled a stream for 22nd April to show off the game, during which the game was shadowdropped for players to buy and play immediately.
Can I buy the Oblivion remaster?
The Oblivion remaster is currently available to purchase.
PC players can purchase the game on Steam, with both a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition of the game available.
The Deluxe Edition includes some DLC and additional in-game cosmetics for players to enjoy.
You can buy it via the Xbox store, though the game is also available on Xbox Game Pass, joining other Bethesda titles on the service.
The game has also been confirmed for PS5, but at the time of writing, the game has not shown up on the PS Store to purchase.

The Oblivion remaster is available to play on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
Previous leaks concerning the game had alleged that the game would be a PC and Xbox exclusive.
This has all changed, however, with the aforementioned leaked images from Virtuos showing the PlayStation logo on the promotional imagery, which was subsequently confirmed with the reveal trailer.

Firstly, the game has received a complete graphical overhaul – gone are those infamous, chunky models, as they’ve been replaced with much more sleek, modern visuals.
Some fans of the original game will undoubtedly find this disappointing, as the original Oblivion’s visuals have developed quite a cult appreciation among fans.
As for gameplay, Todd Howard spoke in the reveal showcase about how the aim was to update the game, while maintaining a lot of the “charm” (that’s one way to put it) that the original was so famous for.
To this end, various quality of life features have been introduced, bringing combat and roleplaying elements more in line with more modern Bethesda titles, especially Skyrim.
Is there an Oblivion remaster trailer?
Yes, the first trailer for the game was shown as part of the Official Reveal showcase on 22nd April.
As well as showing gameplay, we were shown plenty of interviews with original Oblivion developers, as well as the team at Virtuos games, who talked about their experience updating it.
