Luke Littler has suggested he should not have competed at the German Grand Prix after crashing out of the Munich event.

The reigning world champion saw his long unbeaten run ended by Gian van Veen on Monday, losing 7-4 to the Dutch star.

Littler had overcome Cam Crabtree, Joe Cullen and Peter Wright during his German Masters run but was eventually undone in the semi-finals.

The Nuke made a slow start to the match and quickly found himself 3-0 down, prompting him to change his darts.

The 18-year-old fired back to lead 4-3 only to see Van Veen win the next four legs to book his place in the final against Michael van Gerwen.

And it was no more than the Dutchman deserved after posting a 110.81 average compared to Littler’s 95.78.

It was the 18-year-old’s first defeat on the European Tour in 2025, having won the first event in March and skipping the second.

Despite enjoying success over the past 18 months, Littler has not had it all his own way when competing in Germany where he is yet to win a tournament.

Following his latest defeat, Littler took to Instagram with a cryptic message which hinted at him pulling out of upcoming events in Germany.

Posting a picture of the inside of his car, he wrote: “Shouldn’t have been in Munich but had to play anyway.

“Next one in Germany for me is Dortmund and I am glad to say that.”

Littler was alluding to the European Tour final in Dortmund in October however, there are a number of events scheduled to take place in the country before then.

Next month, the European Grand Prix takes place followed by the Baltic Sea Open and multiple Players Championship events all in Germany.

Littler’s post suggests that he is planning to skip all tournaments in Germany until October’s commitments in Dortmund.

He has struggled to win over the German public having been booed at events in the past.

And it was the same theme at the German Masters with sections of the crowd opting to support Littler’s opponents.

In his quarter-final victory over Wright, the crowd chanted in favour of the veteran star with Littler choosing not to acknowledge the spectators after he had wrapped up his victory.

During night nine of Premier League Darts in Berlin, the 18-year-old admitted he struggled to get to grips with the hostility from the crowd.

He said: “I had a little headloss moment, as some of us players do. I just don’t get it, and I can’t explain it. Obviously, you do your walk-on, but then as soon as I got on stage, I started getting booed.

Littler’s attention quickly switches to Premier League Darts in Liverpool on ThursdayGetty

“I got booed in Hildesheim last year against Peter Wright on the European Tour. I was flying and then they started booing me and I lost. It’s something we’ve all got to deal with. Obviously, the Germans mustn’t like us English.”

The teenage sensation must now turn his attention to Premier League Darts duty and night 12 which emanates from Liverpool on Thursday.

His quarter-final clash will see him go up against Van Gerwen in a repeat of the world championship final.

Littler has won four nights from the first 11 weeks and sits seven points clear at the top of the table with four nights left to play before the play-offs take centre stage next month.
