UCLA and Tennessee could end up swapping quarterbacks via the transfer portal.
On Sunday, Nico Iamaleava made things official and announced his commitment to UCLA. Iamaleava’s arrival in Westwood has prompted Joey Aguilar, who transferred from App State to UCLA in December, to go back in the portal on Monday.
According to ESPN insider Chris Low, Tennessee is interested in Aguilar.

— Chris Low (@ClowESPN) April 21, 2025Aguilar is looking for a Power 4 opportunity. After 2 seasons at Diablo Valley Community College, he transferred to App State.
In 2023, Aguilar rewrote the record book at App State. He owns the single-season school records for passing yards (3,757), passing touchdowns (33), attempts (460), completions (293) and 200-yard passing games (13).
Aguilar followed up his record-breaking 2023 campaign with another productive season. He started 11 games, throwing for 3,003 passing yards and 23 touchdowns on 390 attempts, with an average of 273.0 passing yards per game.
It was reported that Aguilar would be getting an NIL deal of over $1 million to play at UCLA. With Iamaleava gone, Tennessee certainly has NIL funds available. A report out of Fort Worth states that TCU QB Josh Hoover turned down a $1 million increase in NIL compensation to transfer to Tennessee.
