This is the closes to the start of the NFL Draft that there have been no trades for first-round picks in the Common Draft Era.
The previous closest was in 1993, when Joe Montana was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs for a first round pick.
Even if the picks stood as they are this year, it is highly unlikely that the first round would pass without any trades.
There has never been an NFL Draft in the Modern Era that didn’t have a single traded pick in the first round.
On top of that, a team has traded up into the top 15 picks in each of the last 24 drafts.
That streak will likely continue this year, and the Kansas City Chiefs could be the ones to make it happen.
According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, the Chiefs are “actively looking to trade up in Round 1.
It seems that the Chiefs are in pursuit of a young offensive lineman and aren’t satisfied with who will be available at No. 31.
Miller’s sources indicated that the Chiefs would want to move in front of the Houston Texans (No. 25) and Los Angeles Rams (No. 26).
Both of those teams are widely projected to select offensive line on Thursday.
Five offensive lineman could be drafted in the first round this year, with some teams feeling there is a big drop in talent after the top linemen.
These offensive linemen could be options for the Chiefs in the first round of the draft.
Armand Membou – Missouri Will Campbell – LSU Kelvin Banks Jr. – Texas Josh Simmons – Ohio State Grey Zabel – North Dakota StateNFL Draft trades are often driven by top quarterback talents at the top of the board, but this year features a weaker pool of quarterbacks.
That likely has slowed down the market for trades into the upper half of the first round, but teams will likely get a better idea of trade possibilities once the draft actually begins.
There were five trades made on draft night during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The 2023 NFL Draft saw six trades take place in the first round.
Time will tell if that trend continues, but it is almost guaranteed that there will be at least one big move on Thursday night.
Keep an eye out for the Chiefs to be the one moving up.
