2025 AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Monday, April 21st – Thursday, April 24th Prelims at 10am local (8pm ET night before)/Finals at 6pm local (4am ET) Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Queensland, Australia LCM (50m) Meet Central SwimSwam Preview Initial Entries Start List Live Results LivestreamWhile the Aquatics GB Championships and Italian Championships wrapped up this week, the 2025 Australian Open Championships are set to begin on Monday, April 21st, and span through Thursday, April 24th at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Although this is a non-World Championship qualifying competition, the meet represents an important tune-up and training milestone ahead of the all-important Trials on the agenda for June.
The entry list is a veritable ‘who’s who’ of Australian swimming, although not everyone will be joining the party. Notable absences include Olympians Kyle Chalmers, Tommy Neill, Sam Short, Matt Temple and Iona Anderson.
However, we’ll be treated to the likes of Olympians Kaylee McKeown, Cameron McEvoy, Maximillian Giuliani, Zachary Stubblety-Cook and Mollie O’Callaghan, among many other high-profile superstars.
There is a strong foreign contingent headed to Brisbane as well, including Erika Fairweather and Lewis Clareburt of New Zealand, as well as Olympic champion and world record holder Thomas Ceccon of Italy.
We reported how 24-year-old Ceccon is entered in a massive program of 7 events, with the versatile ace having been granted permission from the Italian Swimming Federation to use this competition as a World Championships-qualifying meet.
Swimming Australia CEO Rob Woodhouse said of this week’s competition, “The last time our athletes were at this venue, they were booking their ticket to Paris Olympics and Paralympics … and this is a chance to see our athletes have a vital hit out ahead of this year’s World Championships in Singapore.”
“This is a great opportunity to see our Olympic and Paralympic athletes compete, and to also preview our LA and Brisbane hopefuls. We look forward to seeing our swimming – and sport – fans fill Brisbane Aquatic Centre.”
