IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A man has been charged after allegedly driving while impaired and causing a crash that killed two women, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Around 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, troopers responded to I-77 south near mile marker 62 in Iredell County. Officials say a 2006 Ford F-250 was traveling south on I-77 and struck a 2023 Kia Sportage that was also going south. The crash caused both vehicles to go off the right side of the road and collide with the guardrail, causing the Kia to overturn.
The driver of the Kia, 47-year-old Jessica Lyndsay Horton, and a passenger, 47-year-old Patricia Marie Osorno, were ejected from the vehicle and were killed at the scene, highway patrol said. The driver of the Ford, 31-year-old Benjamin Wesley Overton, was not injured.

Highway patrol said both women were wearing seatbelts, but the impact of the collision caused them to be ejected. The roadway was closed for about 10 hours during the on-scene investigation.
