Mississippi State got a huge win for its frontcourt for next season on Saturday with the commitment of Kansas State transfer Achor Achor.
Starkville will already be Achor’s 4th stop on his crazy collegiate journey. Achor comes from faraway Melbourne, Australia, so he traveled a lot of miles before even stepping on a college basketball court. Achor played his prep basketball at Greenforest McCalep Academy in Georgia, before embarking on his college career.
Achor played junior college basketball and then transferred to Samford, where the 6-foot-9, 230-pounder began to thrive. After appearing in 30 games with just 1 start in his first season at Samford, Achor took off. He started 33 games the following season, averaging 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 blocks per contest while shooting a remarkable 58.6% from the field.
Achor then transferred to Kansas State last season, but his 2024-25 season wasn’t what he hoped it would be after leaving Samford for the bright lights of the Big 12. He played only 13.3 minutes per game and eventually left the program because of personal reasons after averaging just 7.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7 games.
When the season ended, he entered the portal once again, and now he’s landed at Mississippi State for a shot in the rugged SEC.
