Florida loses key perimeter player to transfer portal following national title run ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Florida has just completed its first national title run since 2007, but the Gators are losing one piece that contributed to that title run and had a chance to return for the 2025-26 season.

On Friday, guard Denzel Aberdeen confirmed on social media that he’s entering the transfer portal after 3 seasons in Gainesville. This past season, Aberdeen was the 6th-leading scorer for the Gators at 7.7 points and appeared in 39 games with 5 starts.

First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play at such an incredible university. These past 3 years at the University of Florida have been nothing short of amazing. I’m truly grateful to have worn the orange and blue and to represent Gator Nation with pride…

After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal.

Aberdeen appeared in 83 games during his time at Florida, but he really began to blossom as a key rotational player for Todd Golden this season. In addition to his scoring, Aberdeen also averaged 1.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and shot 35% from 3-point range. In his 5 games as a starter, Aberdeen averaged 14.4 points per game, including 22 points in a win over South Carolina and 20 points in a win over Mississippi State.

With some key departures from the title-winning squad, it looked like Aberdeen might have a larger role waiting next season, but that role will not occur with the Gators.
