DENVER (KDVR) — After a warm and dry stretch, Mother Nature is reminding Colorado that winter weather can still happen in April.

Friday and Saturday are Pinpoint Weather Alert Days due to rain and snow showers that will impact the Front Range and high country. Winter weather advisories will be in effect through Saturday morning.

Pinpoint Weather: Winter weather advisories through April 19

According to the Pinpoint Weather team, heavy snow will coat the high country, dropping up to a foot of accumulation in some areas. This is great news for the lingering ski areas that remain open this spring.

However, the winter weather is creating adverse driving conditions in the mountains. Here is what you need to know.

High country road closures

US 6, I-70 closed

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, U.S. 6 - Loveland Pass is closed in both directions due to what the department called "adverse conditions.

Interstate 70 is closed in both directions between Silverthorne and Georgetown for the same adverse conditions.

CDOT said these areas should expect heavy snow showers on Friday. On I-70, the department said to expect up to 3 inches of new accumulation. On Loveland Pass, up to 2.5 inches of new accumulation is expected.

Wind will also be a problem for drivers. Gusts up to 17 mph are expected and could create blizzard-like conditions.

Snow showers will also push across the Front Range on Friday; however, accumulation may only be noticeable on grassy surfaces.

Denver could still see some slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses, so take it slow.
