Self-checkout stations are being stripped out, while customers check out their groceries using their cell phones.
Under the new store plans, customers will be able to complete transactions only using scan and go.
The service allows customers to scan items as they browse the aisles.
They be able to pay for their items without having to physically scan them at a checkout station.
Payments can be completed via the Sam’s Club app.
Once payments have been completed, then customers can walk out of the store – but not before going through an archway.
Arches containing cameras are being installed at the exit of warehouses and this technology verifies goods in shopping carts.
This is an alternative to a worker checking a receipt before allowing a shopper to leave.
Officials have claimed that more than 75% of shoppers now have a “friction-free experience,” per The Dallas Morning News.
The U.S. Sun reported how receipt checks proved to be a controversial feature at the end of the checkout process.
But, the inspections are a feature of membership clubs like Sam’s Club and Costco.
The checks have also started to creep in at supermarkets such as Walmart – a move that has proved highly controversial.
Last fall, a Sam’s Club warehouse in Grapevine, Texas, re-opened after undergoing a huge transformation.
