England youth international Emenalo is the son of former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo.

It is understood Emenalo has been training with the first-team this week before being registered with UEFA.

He is already a part of the club’s under-21 squad and signed his first professional contract in January through to the summer of 2027.

Emenalo first joined Chelsea’s academy at under-8 level before leaving for Monaco when his dad joined the French club.

The midfielder returned to Cobham aged 11 in 2019, though, before progressing through the youth system.

He could now be set for his professional debut for the club his dad spent a decade working for.

Emenalo senior first joined Chelsea as chief scout before becoming Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant during the 2010/11 season.

Following the Italian’s exit, Emenalo was appointed technical director and remained in the role until 2017.

He went on to spend two years as Monaco’s sporting director, the role he now holds with the Saudi Pro League.

As a player, Emenalo won 13 caps for Nigeria and spent time in the USA, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Israel.

The retired left-back also had an 18-month stint at Notts County between 1994 and 1996.

His son could now follow in his footsteps by making his first senior appearance on Thursday.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has used the Conference League as an opportunity to bring academy starlets into the side.

Teenagers Tyrique George, Josh Acheampong and Shumaira Mheuka have all made multiple appearances in the competition this term.

Overall, nine players aged 19 or younger have featured for Chelsea from the league phase onwards.

George was also on the scoresheet in the first leg against Legia last week, his first senior goal.

The Blues will face either Swedish club Djurgardens or Rapid Vienna in next month’s semi-finals if they progress to the last four.
