SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has reached a new milestone. Thursday marks 100 days in office for the political newcomer. A lot is riding on his success, from crime to homelessness.
Mayor Lurie ran on public safety, and that has been a major focus of his administration. The mayor’s goals include hiring more police to crack down on crime.
Lurie has been described as the “law and order” mayor. The city has seen multiple busts in the open-air drug markets this year, taking dealers off the streets, in the ongoing fight to stop the fentanyl crisis from claiming even more lives.
The mayor’s fentanyl state of emergency ordinance is intended to speed up the process of leasing shelter space for the homeless, mental health and drug treatment facilities.

That policy is ending, unless they agree to go into treatment. This is part of the mayor’s “Breaking the Cycle” plan. The mandate takes effect on April 30.
“I was elected to turn this city around,” Lurie said in an interview marking his 100 days in office. “And I want everybody in San Francisco to know that their mayor is focused on getting results for San Franciscans.”
According to the San Francisco Police Department, crime dropped 28 percent in 2024 and is down 30 percent so far in 2025.
The mayor is expected to speak Thursday morning, outlining his accomplishments so far in office.
