Vinícius Júnior has just reached double figures for goal involvements in the Champions League for the fourth consecutive season. Only one Real Madrid player has ever done it more often, and his name is Cristiano Ronaldo.
With his consolation goal against Arsenal on 16 April, Vinícius Júnior took his tally to 10 goal involvements (8 goals, 2 assists) in this season’s Champions League.
Unfortunately for the Brazilian forward, that’s where his run will end in 2024-25, with Real Madrid falling to Arsenal in the quarter-final. They lost both legs of their tie, including a 2-1 defeat to the Gunners at Bernabéu in the second leg.
It marks the fourth successive Champions League campaign in which he has recorded 10 or more goal involvements. That’s a record that only Cristiano Ronaldo – who did it for a frankly absurd eight consecutive seasons between 2010-11 and 2017-18 – can better among Real Madrid players.
Vinícius first hit double figures in 2021-22, scoring four times and providing six assists as Real Madrid won the Champions League, defeating Liverpool 1-0 in the final thanks to the Brazilian’s winner in Paris.
The following season, he contributed 12 goal involvements (seven goals, five assists) before Madrid’s run was ended by eventual winners Manchester City in the semi-finals.
Last season, Vinícius secured his second Champions League title, scoring in the final again as Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, finishing the campaign with 10 goal involvements (six goals, four assists).
His latest milestone also moves him into second place in Real Madrid’s all-time rankings for the most seasons with 10+ goal involvements in the Champions League, surpassing club legends Raúl and Karim Benzema (both three).
Vinícius now also ranks joint-fourth for all clubs. Ronaldo holds the competition record with eight seasons of 10+ goal involvements, ahead of Lionel Messi (seven), and Robert Lewandowski has now done in five times. Vinícius joins Kylian Mbappé on four separate seasons.
