Ronaldo’s current contract, which he signed when joining in January 2023, had been due to expire at the end of this season.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who turned 40 in Febraury could thus be playing football beyond his 42nd birthday.

talkSPORT understands Al Nassr have always been confident that Ronaldo would extend his stay at the Riyadh-based club with the finances similar to his current €200m-a-year contract.

However, bonuses and endorsements are set to see the 40-year-old earn even more on top of his staggering wages.

It was also suggested earlier in the campaign that Ronaldo could land a new role as part of extending his stay in Saudi Arabia.

He had been set to become an ambassador for the 2034 World Cup in the country.

The new role would be part of a nine-year deal continuing beyond the end of the forward’s playing career.

Saudi Arabia were confirmed as the hosts of the 25th edition of the tournament in December.

However, retirement could still be several years away as Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down.

He commented on the suggestion he could soon hang up his boots in November.

Following a win over Poland with Portugal, he explained: “I just want to enjoy it.

“If it [retirement] has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know.

“I’m turning 40 soon… I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire.”

His contract extension comes as Ronaldo looks to reach the 1,000 career goals landmark. He is currently on 933 career strikes.

The former Real Madrid man became the first player to score 900 goals back in September.

He will also hope to end his quest for a league title in the next two seasons.

Since Ronaldo’s arrival two years ago, Al Nassr have finished second in back-to-back campaigns.

Meanwhile, the current season is also set to end in disappointment with the club eight points adrift of league leaders Al Ittihad with seven matches remaining.

Despite not winning the league, Ronaldo secured the golden boot last term with 35 strikes.

He once again leads the scoring charts with 23 goals this season, taking his overall tally for Al Nassr to 90 in 99 appearances.
