The Miami Dolphins traded for Pro-Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey looking to add the final piece to a Super Bowl roster.
But after a wild-card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 and failing to make the playoffs last season, a split is already on the cards.
GettyRamsey is the wrong side of 30 but remains a useful option[/caption]“We decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward,” general manager Chris Grier confirmed on Tuesday.
Ramsey endured a down season statistically in 2024 but the move has still come as a shock given he agreed a three-year, $72.3 million extension in September.
It made the 30-year-old Super Bowl champion the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
Miami native Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson isn’t happy with the move and the iconic former wide receiver thinks Ramsey is still one of the best in football.
“The only reason they want him moved on is because of salary, to get his wages off the books,” he told co-host Shannon Sharpe on their Nightcap podcast. “They think they slick.
“What they should do, if they knew what they was doing, I love Jalen Ramsey, he’s for me, still a top five corner in the NFL. Especially when it comes to man-to-man.
“Very adequate and still good at what he does. I think he should move to safety. I think it would be dope.”
Sharpe noted that the Dolphins have shipped out two superstar talents in left tackle Laremy Tunsil and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
He also believes that Tyreek Hill could wind up being dealt away despite Grier’s insistence that the option is not being explored.
“Fitz is one of the best safeties in the league. Tunsil’s one of the best left tackles,” he insisted. “You could use both of them right now.

Ochocinco thinks the Miami front office has some explaining to do after overseeing a slide to obscurity that shows little sign of slowing down.
He asked: “What are we doing? Are we trying to do anything in the AFC East or are we just trying to give it to Buffalo each and every year?
“What I see going on now, it’s going to be years and years and years before we can rebuild and get a team, whether it be through the draft or offseason acquisitions, that can compete with the Buffalo Bills.
“All over again, we’ve got the [New England] Patriots dominating the AFC East for a very long time, now all of a sudden its gonna be the Buffalo Bills.
“When is it gonna be our turn? And this is coming from a Dolphins fan since 1968.”

Miami currently holds the 13th pick in this month’s NFL Draft and has holes to fill on both sides of the ball even if Ramsey, who would likely only be worth a third-day pick, and Hill remain on the roster.
There are question marks over quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s long-term future in the game after a number of concussions, while standout tackle Terron Armstead has announced his retirement.
The New York Jets are a dumpster fire still looking for a viable signal-caller, the Patriots are hoping to rebuild after Drake Maye showed signs of potential as a rookie.
All of that means Ocho is likely right about the Bills dominating with MVP Josh Allen under center.
Miami needs to keep hold of its stars and hit several draft picks out of the park or the only noise ringing out at Hard Rock Stadium will be a chorus of boos.
