While there were reports earlier, that the BCCI’s central contracts could be out in April itself, now as it turns out, the new list could be rolled out only in October, as per the Times of India. The current contracts got over in mid 2024 itself, but the BCCI is yet to come up with the fresh contracts.
BCCI to Come Up with Central Contracts by October?
It must be reminded to all, that as per the BCCI policy the contracts run from October to September cycle, but this has been missed a few times in the past years. It seems that the delay could be to discuss the future of certain players, like Rohit Sharma‘s future. The board officials also plan to sit with selectors to discuss the future of Team India.
The board also needs to discuss the contracts issue with coach Gautam Gambhir as well. “If one looks at the performances in the year 2023-24, India have won the T20 World Cup besides being consistent in the other formats. In that case, the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja don’t deserve being pushed down (in the gradation system of the contracts).
Rohit Sharma’s Future Will be Big Consideration
“The Test series loss to New Zealand at home and the debacle in Australia happened after Oct. The board doesn’t mind giving the payouts as per the last contracts. If the board gives fresh contracts in Oct, it will give a better idea of vision of the future,” a BCCI source said over the issue.
The report further suggested that the BCCI is looking to cut the size of the support staff as well, and that could be discussed too, when the central contracts are discussed. Meanwhile, after the IPL 2025, the Indian team is scheduled to play a Test series in England, and there is no clarity if regular Rohit will play or not, and who will lead.
