SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A car ignited in flames and caused four eastbound lanes of San Francisco's Bay Bridge to be blocked off Tuesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officers wrote at 2:30 p.m. on X, "A car fire currently has the #1 thru #4 lanes currently blocked on I-80. Please be patient and drive safely."
Firefighters, Caltrans crews, and the CHP are currently attempting to clear the heavily traveled bridge and reopen lanes for motorists.
(Photo via CHP)The burned car was hauling a large trailer, photos from the CHP show. Smoke from the fire was first reported by witnesses at 1:44 p.m., according to the CHP's traffic log.
