April is the perfect time to get your garden ready for the summer, and as one gardening fan has proved, it doesn’t need to cost a bomb.

Posting under the name @heirloom.homemaking, the outdoors lover took to TikTok to say: “Gardening doesn’t have to break the bank, it can be as budget friendly as you make it”

When most of us have finished treating ourselves to a tasty snack of strawberries or cherries, we usually just pop the containers in the recycling bin.

However, this savvy content creator has figured out a way to re-purpose them for her garden.

“With how quickly my kids go through fruits and veggies, I always save the containers for starter seedlings,” she said.

Demonstrating her simple hack on TikTok, the garden lover showed how she filled her old fruit trays with soil and then poked holes in the soil using a pencil.

She then sprinkled seeds into the holes and gave them a water with a watering can.

When the plants begin to grow, the gardener will move them into her garden, and watch them bloom all summer long.

Sharing a useful tip, she added: “Most grocery stores sell seedling starter soil, so if you pick up a bag along with a bin of strawberries, you could be growing something in as little as three weeks.

“A little creativity goes a long way when it comes to gardening on a budget.”

The TikTok has likely impressed many viewers as it has been flooded with comments from users sharing their thoughts.

One person said: “Exactly!

“It can be so beneficial to the garden but so good for your soul too!”

A second person said: “I love seeing creative ways to get things done.
