Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, Palos Verdes Peninsula and Ventura County Beaches were placed under an updated beach hazards statement by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 2:23 p.m. The statement is in effect until 9 p.m.
The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA states to prepare for, “Elevated surf of 3 to 6 feet with isolated sets to 7 feet, along with dangerous rip currents and breaking waves.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” the NWS said. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly locations in such conditions, so stay off the rocks.”
