AUSTIN (KXAN) — A firefighter with the Georgetown Fire Department died Friday morning after a crash on US-29, west of Wolf Ranch Parkway, according to a press release from the city of Georgetown.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. The firefighter was riding a motorcycle home at the time and had worn a helmet, the city said.
Georgetown police officers and other emergency responders arrived at the scene around 9:13 a.m. An ambulance took the firefighter to Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital, where he died around 10 a.m., according to the release.
The identity of the firefighter wasn't disclosed by Georgetown Friday afternoon.
“We extend our prayer to the family, and we appreciate the loving support we have received from all the neighboring agencies,” said Georgetown Fire Chief John Sullivan in the press release.
Another vehicle was involved in the crash, but the department did not provide a description of how the crash occurred. A person in that vehicle declined to be transported by responders.
The city of Georgetown requested the Texas Department of Public Safety to investigate the crash. It said that it expects to have more details "within the next 48 hours."
