Detroit style pizza has landed at L.A. Live with the opening of Brooklyn-born Emmy Squared Pizza.
The new spot has 70 seats indoors and 65 outdoors. It opened earlier this month at 1011 S. Figueroa St., near Crypto.com Arena. The pizza spot is known for its square-shaped Detroit-style pizzas with fluffy focaccia-like dough, a caramelized and cheesy “frico” crust and unique toppings.
“We think we make the best Detroit-style pizza anywhere,” said Scott Francis, president and CEO of Santa Monica Brew Works and Emmy Squared Pizza Los Angeles.
“The proof is in the pudding, come taste it and you’ll see,” he added.

Pizza highlights include the Colony, which comes with pepperoni, pickled jalapeños and honey, which is the most popular pizza, according to Francis.
“It really is just a great pizza,” he said.
The menu includes other options like the Roni Overload, which is made with triple pepperoni, and unique combos like the Seoul Mate, made with vegan spicy kimchi, and the Hot Chicken, which comes with Nashville hot chicken and pickles.
But there’s more than just pizza at the new place since the restaurant also serves salads, sandwiches and burgers like Le Big Matt Burger. The colossal dish is a double-stack beef burger with cheese and a special sauce. The pizza spot will also serve beers from Santa Monica Brew Works.
Emmy Squared Pizza is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturday. For more information go to emmysquaredpizza.com.
