Agenda is a polished writing and planning app that blends your notes and calendar into a single experience
As a content creator, I utilize many different platforms to see which one is going to work best for me as I draft articles. There are some people who will do it right in their CMS, but I prefer to work offline first and then transfer to our site when I feel the article is just right. In that respect, Agenda is a great project management companion.
About Agenda for Mac
Agenda is an elegant date-focused note-taking app for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, designed to bring together your calendar events and your notes into a single, cohesive timeline. Whether you’re planning a project, managing meeting notes, or journaling ideas, Agenda helps you organize information by linking it to relevant dates—past, present, or future.
Agenda is developed by Momenta B.V., an independent software company founded by long-time Apple developers Drew McCormack and Alexander Griekspoor. Both founders bring decades of macOS and iOS development experience to the table. McCormack is known for his earlier work on apps like Mental Case, and Griekspoor co-founded Mekentosj, the original creators of Papers, a reference manager for researchers.
Agenda is a native macOS and iOS app written primarily in Swift and Objective-C, using AppKit on macOS and UIKit on iOS. It utilizes Core Data for local data management and persistence, with CloudKit integration for secure iCloud sync across devices. The app employs Markdown-like syntax for note formatting, rendered via a custom text engine that blends styled text with modern interface features like collapsible sections, tags, and attachments.

User Experience
Agenda is designed so that users can create full notes that are associated with dates. For example, if I am working on a project that needs to be scheduled for a specific date, I can start the note set the due date in Agenda. Because Agenda is linked to my calendar, it makes it possible for me to keep that Project running on time. There are several reasons I like using Agenda for content planning over something else.
Organize by Project
Since there are several different types of content that I coordinate — both for personal and work reasons — using projects and categories to keep it all organized is great. Categories are the top level of organization while Projects live inside those. So, for me, ‘MacSources’ is a Category and ‘Products’ and ‘Apps’ are Projects. Then each product or app review lives inside one of those projects.
Think in Timelines
Since Agenda is closely related to calendar events and ties directly into Calendar programs, it’s very easy to schedule different Notes, Projects, or events to keep your timeline intact. It’s a different way of project management — when you think about the note being the event rather than attaching a note to an event, but it works really well.
Link to Calendar Events
Agenda integrates natively with Apple Calendar and Reminders, which means you can link notes to meetings or deadlines from your calendar. You can even create reminders directly inside notes which is really helpful because you don’t have to leave your train of thought behind while you jot down a quick reminder.
Use Markdown
While this might not seem like something everyone would use, it comes in quite handy for our content creation as markdown is recognized by the CMS we use to construct our articles and site. Markdown is also helpful because you have the option to add tags (#tag) and people (@name), which is very helpful if you are working with a team.
Sync Across Devices
This is probably the greatest reason I like using Agenda — it works with iCloud to keep everything in sync across your Macs, iPhone, and iPad. There are a lot of times I’ll have my phone or iPad with me and I want to write something about an app I’m using or make notes about a product I see that I want to review. Having any work I do when I’m out and about is available when I get back to my office is essential for me.
Conclusion
As a content creator who values organization, flexibility, and working offline before publishing, Agenda hits a sweet spot. Its timeline-driven note system, seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem, and thoughtful design make it an ideal tool for planning and managing content across multiple stages and platforms. While it might not replace your CMS or Notion for everything, it serves as a focused, lightweight companion that keeps your projects moving forward—especially when tied to real-world dates and deadlines.
Whether you’re planning articles, documenting meeting takeaways, or maintaining a creative journal, Agenda offers a robust and elegant way to keep your thoughts organized and synced across devices. It may take a slight mental shift to adopt the date-based paradigm, but once you do, it’s a highly intuitive and rewarding tool to use.
