According to reporting from the Los Angeles Times, police received a call informing them of a shooting at Minaj's address at 7:05 p.m. A department spokesperson told the publication that the caller claimed a friend of theirs shot a Black woman, with two potential suspects dressed in all black present on the property.
Police arrived at the address—which they would not confirm belonged to Minaj, but which a neighbor did—and determined the call to be a false report, as there was no evidence of a crime. Other indications that the call was a swatting attempt include the caller contacting the department directly—rather than by calling 911—which the spokesperson said makes it difficult to trace, as well as the fact that it was the only call received about the purported incident. Typically, actual instances of violence will trigger multiple calls, according to the spokesperson.
Minaj has also been targeted previously, with police responding to reports of child abuse as well as another reported shooting in 2023, according to the Times.
According to TMZ, she was not home during the most recent incident.
