The University of San Diego announced that a Texas A&M University dean will head the Knauss School of Business starting this summer.
Brian Tietje, an award-winning professor, dean and nonprofit board member for nearly three decades, will assume his new position on July 1.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead the University of San Diego’s Knauss School of Business as we advance USD’s mission through free enterprise, business excellence, and global engagement,” Tietje said.
Tietje worked at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for 22 years, nine of which were spent as Vice Provost of International, Graduate & Extended Education and as an award-winning marketing professor in the Orfalea College of Business.
A USD spokesperson said his background aligns with the Knauss school’s mission to “develop socially responsible leaders with a global mindset.”
USD senior vice president Gail Baker said he knows Tietje will uphold the school’s values.
“Because of his ability to connect with faculty and students, deep knowledge of business education, commitment to student success, and demonstrated ability to lead in a complex environment, I am confident that Dr. Tietje will build on the momentum that the Knauss School of Business has achieved over the past few years – with a heightened commitment to USD’s academic mission,” Baker said.
Tietje authored a variety of business introduction textbooks and has published work in national business journals on sales, consumer psychology and branding.
Richard Joseph currently serves as the interim dean of the Knauss school, following the departure of Timothy Keane in August 2024.
