Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in December last year, made his comeback in IPL 2025 with Chennai Super Kings. However, he hasn't lived up to expectations so far, as he has taken just five wickets in five matches. Notably, the team also lost four of their first five games in the season.
"Talking about fandom, last year, I did an episode of Kutty Stories with Dinesh Karthik. He told me one thing about RCB fandom. He said RCB fans will not let down any of their players at any stage. I agree that fandom is about criticism and keeping it real. But, no player goes out there to make mistakes," Ashwin said on his YouTube show.

The Super Kings secured Ashwin for ₹9.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. He returned to the team after nearly a decade. Ashwin conceded 48 runs, including 21 in his first over, during the recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

"Generally, nobody likes losing. Honestly, I am not bothered by the trolling. You are saying 'don't troll and all that, I don't bother about that. If people are talking about you, pointing out your flaws, it can come from a position of meaning well. We can take it as constructive criticism. But, a few people, when they go after you, it is just venom," Ashwin said.

They lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home ground, Chepauk, which was once considered a fortress. CSK are now on the verge of recording their worst-ever losing streak in a single IPL season.
