Alabama is in the midst of a pivotal spring as the Crimson Tide prepare for the 2025 season under Kalen DeBoer.
The spring transfer portal is set to open up next week, so ESPN has an idea of what position Alabama may target once it does. In a wide-ranging spring preview published this week, ESPN identified the tight end position as one that Alabama will look to improve via the portal this spring.
Alabama has a solid starter at tight end in Josh Cuevas, but the depth is uncertain following spring injuries to Danny Lewis Jr. and Marshall Pritchett. The Crimson Tide are needing to replace CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts, who both exhausted their collegiate eligibility last season.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has a lot of belief in Cuevas, who followed this staff from Seattle to Tuscaloosa, and the staff already brought in two tight ends via the portal this offseason. But after these spring setbacks, they’re likely going to need one more.
Cuevas is also banged up this spring, so Alabama is currently going through practices with just 1 healthy scholarship tight end: Jay Lindsey. True freshman Kaleb Edwards is also expected to enroll in the summer and will provide additional depth once he arrives.
The good news for Alabama’s offense is that its wide receiver position has been getting rave reviews this spring. Ryan Williams is back for his sophomore campaign and the program seems to be optimistic about Miami transfer Isaiah Horton. Germie Bernard is also back in Tuscloosa for the 2025 season and could start alongside Williams and Horton this fall.
