The Windsor-based Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC men’s soccer club has a new league for 2025.
The team, removed from its previous league last year, joined a first-year summer amateur league called The League for Clubs.
The League for Clubs has 45 teams in six conferences, according to its website www.theleaguefc.com. Matches begin in early May and end with a championship in August.
The Hailstorm will be in the Mountain Premier Conference. Two other teams are currently listed in the conference with the Hailstorm, CFA Aurora FC in Denver and Peak XI FC in Thornton.
Jordan Freemyer, a spokesman with Future Legends LLC, the Hailstorm ownership group, said some regions in The League for Clubs have already started their seasons. The Hailstorm will play between eight and 12 regular-season matches beginning next month and running into July. Freemyer said the number of matches will depend on the number of teams in the Mountain Premier Conference.
The League for Clubs website says it was created through a partnership with Women’s Premier Soccer League ownership and men’s clubs looking for an alternative to the confines of existing lower-level leagues.
In late December, Future Legends announced its women’s club, the Northern Colorado Rain FC, would move to the WPSL starting this spring. The Rain debuted in 2024 as a member of the USL W League, a pre-professional and large league with teams throughout the U.S.
The Hailstorm previously played three seasons (2022-24) in the USL League One, a third-tier division of the United Soccer League network. The Hailstorm’s franchise agreement with the USL was terminated in late 2024 with ownership caught up in a variety of financial and legal troubles.
“This is a first step into the club’s new future and our larger goal of growing the game of soccer in Northern Colorado,” Freemyer said in an email, adding additional announcements on the Hailstorm’s plans will likely come out this summer.
