The US Sun has even previously reported on customers complaining over the section’s departure.
But now, there seems to be an explanation as to the book section and its future at Costco.
One person on the Reddit thread r/Costco explained when fans might expect it to return.
They said on Friday: “My understanding when they announced they were going to stop was that they would still have the seasonal book table around Christmas.”
Another person seemingly confirmed this theory, replying: “Yes – there will still be books around the holidays.”
The reactions to this festive news came thick and fast, with another social media user commenting: “Awesome!”
BOOKS ARE BACK
The book industry has actually been seeing a resurgence, as reported by The US Sun.
It was reported that Barnes & Noble will open 60 new spots in 2025.
The company has said: “[Barnes & Noble] is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers.
“In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019.
“[The company] is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful.”
The rise of social media has been credited for the rise.
Content creators on platforms like Tiktok, with the subsection of the app called BookTok, have inspired a whole new generation to read.
Barnes & Noble added: “Since the rise of BookTok during the pandemic, bookstores have seen a significant surge in popularity, especially among young people.
“Our stores have become popular social spots, offering an experience that online shopping simply can’t match.”

Despite this success, some on the Costco thread had an idea why the book section was scrapped, claiming that it simply wasn’t profitable anymore.
One person said that the section was “INCREDIBLY labor-intensive.
“Members would destroy it every day without actually making purchases from the table.”
A second sleuth noted: “I bought a couple of things there.
“Mostly gift sets like the Harry Potter gift set and The Game of Thrones collection but the prices weren’t exactly spectacular.
“I think they were never really able to compete on price so it doesn’t really appeal to the members much like their video game issue.”
