Scottie Scheffler beat the bad weather at Augusta National to play a Masters warm-up round with his mom.
Golf‘s world No. 1 took advantage of ideal conditions on Sunday, ahead of an announcement later in the day that confirmed patron gates would not open as scheduled on Monday because of anticipated heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Scheffler was joined by his mom for a practice round at AugustaThe MastersForecasts called for rainfall of one inch or more, and the club cited safety concerns in barring spectators from the course.
That turned Sunday, with temperatures in the low 80s, into a good day for players who arrived early to get some practice ahead of the year’s first major.
Past champions are encouraged to bring guests out for a round, and Scheffler is always happy to accept that invitation.
As defending champion in 2023, he brought sister Callie and in 2024 he invited a younger sister, Molly.
This year, the honor went to his mother, Diane.
She was seen in blue slacks with a yellow sleeveless shirt and white cap, smiling and laughing as she walked with her son around the fairway.
“Coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time,” one fan commented, after photos of the moment were shared on The Masters Instagram account.
“Such a special and memorable day! Soak it in Scottie as this is what life is all about,” another said.
“The best! So special for a mom, now you understand the pure gut love for a kid,” a third wrote.
On Sunday, Augusta members played the course in between groups of tournament competitors.

He has also spoken out after his $108 Masters Champions Dinner decision received backlash.
Despite a slow start in 2025 while recovering from surgery to his right hand, Scheffler remains the favorite to claim his third green jacket as he prepares to do battle at Augusta with rival Rory McIlroy.
“Why does my game fit so well at Augusta National? It’s a good question,” he admitted in the build up to this year’s tournament.
“I think the golf course is really difficult.
“I’ve done a very good job of managing my way around the course the last few years and hitting the appropriate shots when I need to and being in control of my ball.
