In the 19th match of IPL 2025, Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational performance for Gujarat Titans (GT) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as he claimed four wickets for just 17 runs at the Uppal Stadium, which is his home ground in domestic cricket. This stellar performance helped GT secure an easy seven-wicket victory and also marked Siraj’s best-ever IPL figures and his 100th IPL wicket.
Personal battles and redemption
Behind Siraj’s on-field success was a personal struggle. The fast bowler faced disappointment after being left out of India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Discussing his emotions, Siraj acknowledged the challenge of dealing with self-doubt but emphasised the role of his support system in helping him channel his frustration into motivation.
Reflecting on his performance, Siraj said, “When you come to your home ground, it is a special feeling. My family was there in the crowd and that lifted me up.” He added, “I have played for seven years for RCB. I have worked hard on my bowling and also on my mindset, it is working really well for me. At one time, I was not able to digest it (having not been picked for Champions Trophy) but I kept my spirits up and worked on my fitness and game.”

Siraj used the time to prepare himself when he was dropped. He shared that he has worked hard during the break when he started doubting himself. “Whatever mistakes I was making, I worked on those and I’m enjoying my bowling. As a professional, when you are consistently with the Indian team, a doubt grows in your mind (on him being dropped) but I cheered myself up and was looking forward to the IPL. When you execute what you are trying to deliver, you stay at the top. When you move the ball both in and out and it works instinctively, it gives you a different feeling.” he concluded.
Consistent show in IPL 2025
Since joining GT, Siraj has been a top performer in IPL 2025, with nine wickets in four matches at an average of 13.77 and an economy rate of 7.75. His impactful spell against SRH restricted the opposition to 152/8, setting the stage for GT’s convincing win.
