Texas added a big-time prospect to its 2027 recruiting class on Sunday afternoon.
The Longhorns earned a commitment from 4-star linebacker Taven Epps. He chose Texas over USC and UCLA, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett:

Epps is from Southern California, so he’s spurning local schools in USC and UCLA in order to play for the Longhorns in college.
Epps is an elite prospect in the class of 2027. He’s currently the No. 54 overall player and the No. 2 linebacker in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 6 player from the state of California.
His list of other offers include Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Texas A&M and plenty more.
Epps is the first member of Texas’s 2027 recruiting class. Barring any future changes to the recruiting calendar, Epps will be able to officially sign with the Longhorns during the Early Signing Period in December of 2027.
Epps attends Tustin High School in Tustin, California. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds.
