It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Raphinha, who was back to his worst off the pitch for Barcelona against Real Betis.
The Catalans’ captain saw his side miss out on the chance to go six points clear of Real Madrid on Saturday night, drawing 1-1 with Real Betis after their title rivals lost to Valencia.
No one took Barca’s dropped points harder than RaphinhaGetty Ter Stegen and Flick both had to deal with an angry reactionr/soccerGiven that Betis are the only team in LaLiga that can match Barca’s form and that there weren’t any glaring refereeing errors, this was a match to put in the books and move on from for the hosts at Montjuic.
However, Raphinha failed to do that in spectacular fashion.
A second-half substitute after Gavi’s opener and Natan’s equaliser in the opening stages, Raphinha instantly became the game’s most dangerous player and fashioned a series of chances.
Yet when none of them came off, he decided to blame referee Gil Manzano for his team’s failings.
Robert Lewandowski was seen trying to calm down the Brazilian who yelled towards the official and his assistants, but new footage has shown just how much he lost his head.
Phone footage from fans in the stands has shown Hansi Flick failing to calm down his captain, before Marc-Andre ter Stegen failed in his attempts.
Meeting his teammate by the tunnel, the injured goalkeeper grabbed Raphinha, only to be dramatically and angrily shoved away.
Rather remarkably, Manzano’s refereeing report that was released post-match didn’t make any mention of Raphinha, meaning that he will very likely avoid retrospective punishment.
Flick too tried to help out his player, almost jokingly saying in his press conference: “He was angry with me, not with the referee, he was yelling at me.”
Footage has also been released of a close up between Raphinha and the officials at full-time, in which the winger can be heard telling a linesman: “You don’t tell me to shut up!

“You don’t tell me to shut up! You’re rude!”
Despite the disappointing result, Raphinha, who played for Leeds from 2020 to 2022, is playing by far the best football of his career, and leads the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
He has a massive 27 goals and 18 assists in 44 games this season, with Barca leading LaLiga, in the Copa del Rey final, and facing Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Yet Saturday’s actions cap off a bad fortnight for the 27-year-old, who was humiliated on international duty.
Speaking before facing arch rivals Argentina in World Cup qualifying, Raphinha told Brazil legend Romario that Argentina would be given a ‘beating on and off the pitch’.
He also said that he was certain he would score, but instead Argentina won 4-1, and Raphinha got in a shoving match with multiple opponents as he left the pitch and was humbled in the media.
