Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner has consistently been a true workhorse, logging consecutive seasons with over 200 carries and over 1,000 rushing yards.
His consistency has made him a fantasy football staple among running backs the past two seasons.
ESPN’s fantasy football writer Mike Clay ranks Conner as the No. 16 running back heading into 2025.
Conner returns as the lead back in Arizona. Despite having never played a full regular season in eight tries, Conner has produced at least 220 touches, 1,080 yards and eight TDs in four consecutive seasons. That includes 1,508 yards on 283 touches in 16 games (all three are career highs) in 2024. Productive as both a rusher and receiver, Conner ended the 2024 season with three-plus targets and two-plus receptions in 12 straight games. He has finished as a top-20 fantasy back in four straight seasons (top 15 in PPG each year) and is well positioned for another solid RB2 campaign in his age-30 campaign.
Since joining the Cardinals in 2021, Conner has been the centerpiece of the team’s rushing attack. Injuries have occasionally limited him, but when healthy he delivers.
In 2023, he ranked sixth in the league with 1,040 rushing yards while posting a career-best 5.0 yards per carry. In 16 games last season, he rushed for 1,094 yards, ranking 11th in the league. It’s the first time in his career that he rushed for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.

In the red zone, Conner dominated touches, accounting for 87.9% of the Cardinals’ rushing attempts last season, the second-highest mark in the league. His 51 carries inside the 20-yard line tied for seventh-most. In 2023, he held an impressive 76.2% share as well, ranking eighth.
Despite his steady production, durability remains a concern for fantasy managers. Conner has yet to play a fully healthy season in his eight-year career.
As a receiver, he remains a key contributor. Last season, he ranked sixth among running backs with 414 receiving yards and finished fourth among Arizona pass catchers. His 47 receptions tied wide receiver Michael Wilson for third on the team.
