Publishing more than 1,100 chapters since its debut in 1997, the One Piece manga series is a truly epic endeavour.
Created by writer/artist Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is now a multimedia franchise, adapted into a beloved anime series and a live-action Netflix drama, both of which earned a fan-following of their own.
One Piece is known for its ambitious, serialised story arcs, telling a fantasy adventure story about a young pirate named Monkey D Luffy. Accompanied by a ragtag crew of other pirates, he’s on a quest to track down a treasure known as the One Piece – although the manga’s plot structure is all about the tangents he experiences along the way.
The manga’s chapter count may sound intimidating, but fortunately the story is broken up into separate arcs.
New chapters arrive several times per month, published in Japan via the long-running Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. That being said, it’s not a strictly weekly schedule, which is why the release dates can sometimes be confusing to new readers.
