Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 39.25 Cr go down the drain as top-order fails to fire in third successive clash ...0

In just a span of a year, SRH’s biggest strength has become their Achilles Heel. In IPL 2024, while the top order for the Hyderabad team fired all cylinders, it has failed in three successive matches now, minus their opening match — where Ishan Kishan scored a 106 and Travis Head returned with 67. On Thursday, while chasing 201 against KKR at the Eden Gardens, the scoreboard read 9/3 after 3 overs, with Head, Abhishek Sharma and Kishan returning to the hut very, very early.

SRH’s 39.25 Cr Blunder

While the top-order failure came as a surprise for SRH, during the LSG match; it isn’t anymore. Head was caught out to Harshit Rana, Abhishek was caught by Venkatesh Iyer, while Kishan was caught brilliantly by Ajinkya Rahane. In their second match vs LSG, the score read 2/15 after 2.2 overs, where Abhishek was out for 6 from 6, while Kishan was out for a golden duck.

Against DC, all three batters in the top order were dismissed in 4.1 overs, with the score reading 37/4. That just shows, how poor SRH batters have been. Travis Head came up with decent performances in the first two matches, scoring 67 and 47, but since then has been kept quiet with 22 and 4.

Failures Galore for Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head

Talking about Abhishek, he is enduring a poor season, scoring 33 runs at an average of 8.25 in 4 matches. Ishan Kishan, despite scoring a hundred in his maiden match for SRH, has been bad with 4 runs in the last three matches. Now, it kind of looks impossible for Hyderabad to come out of this “poor batting” loop, but someone has to take the lead from the top order, to stay at the wicket and score some runs.

Or else, the writing on the wall is clear for SRH — get out from the race of playoffs even before it actually begins. Most importantly, if they lose their KKR match, they will go to the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table.
