Gary Danielson is nearing the end of his longtime broadcasting career and has confirmed he will hang things up after the 2025 season with CBS. That has the broadcaster reflecting on some of the memorable moments of his tenure.
This fall will be Danielson’s 20th season at CBS, where he originally joined the network for their SEC on CBS coverage. He has since transitioned to calling Big Ten games due to the new media rights agreement for the conference, but some SEC games still hold a special place in Danielson’s heart.
During a recent interview with David Pollack, Danielson admitted there is one game he called in the SEC that produced an environment unlike anything he had ever seen before. That would be Notre Dame’s trip into Athens to face Georgia.
“I did the Notre Dame at Georgia (game). I have never seen anything like that atmosphere,” admitted Danielson.
That would be the 2019 game when Kirby Smart led his No. 3 Georgia team to a 23-17 win over Brian Kelly and his No. 7 Notre Dame squad. Jake Fromm threw a touchdown and D’Andre Swift ran for 98 yards and a touchdown, but it was the environment that left an impression for Danielson.
Pollack reflected on it as the moment Georgia unveiled its new LED light system with the home crowd producing 7 false starts from Notre Dame. Danielson admitted it was the loudest he’s seen a crowd for that period of time.
“That was as loud as I’ve ever heard anything for an hour and a half, 3 hours,” Danielson said.
