Who would have thought Guenther Steiner could enjoy a career of peace and tranquillity away from the grid?

In the hit Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’, Steiner became an overnight cult hero thanks to his legendary quotes when he was Haas’ team principal.

Steiner’s ruthless quips on Drive to Survive made him a hit with F1 fans

From calling his own team a ‘bunch of w******’ after a double DNF at the 2018 Australian Grand Prix to stating Kevin Magnussen ‘does not f*** smash my door’ amid the Dane’s fiery reaction following a crash with Haas teammate Romain Grosjean at Silverstone in 2019, Steiner was box office entertainment.

However, Steiner departed the grid following 2023 when Haas elected not to renew his contract, bringing an end to his 10-year association with the American team.

So, what is the 59-year-old up to these days?

Well, Steiner is about to embark on a lengthy speaking tour, titled ‘Guenther Steiner: Unfiltered’, that begins on April 23 and wraps up on November 25.

However, it may surprise some fans to learn the former Haas boss runs a luxury villa in his hometown of Merano, Italy, aptly named Villa Steiner.

Speaking exclusively on talkSPORT Breakfast, Steiner said: “Yeah, I do a little bit of everything.

“I’m not running it myself, I own it. It’s a very touristy area and I like the house.”

Even though Steiner may not be fully involved in the F1 world, the names of the five suites in the villa show he still has plenty of love for motorsport.

The five suites on offer are titled Monte Carlo, Suzuka, Melbourne, Singapore and Silverstone.

F1 fans will instantly recognise all five names given they represent different venues in the sport.

The Monte Carlo suite is the most expensive and starts at €250 (£209) per night while Suzuka is the cheapest at €120 (£100) per night.

After learning of Steiner’s luxury hotel, Breakfast co-host Ally McCoist couldn’t help but regale a time from his playing days when he ventured to Italy for pre-season.

The Rangers icon would train at a complex called Il Ciocco near Barga, a placed McCoist described as ‘absolutely stunning’.

One evening, McCoist and one of his ‘sidekicks’ decided to cycle into Barga but ran into several of his countrymen despite being several hours away.

“Guenther, I promise you, every second face was from Glasgow,” McCoist said.

“Because, believe it or not, they have a fish and chip festival in Barga every year. Incredible, absolutely incredible.”

McCoist added he planned to visit Steiner’s villa for some fish and chips, although someone forgot to tell the Scot the two locations are separated by a five-hour drive.

Owning Villa Steiner isn’t the only surprise venture of the Italian’s since he stepped away from the grid.

He became a brand ambassador for Buffalo Trace Bourbon whiskey last year having fallen in love with the brand following a trip to their historic distillery in Kentucky.
