Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has received fitness clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) and will be RR’s designated wicketkeeper and captain against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 5.
Having fractured his right finger, Samson had underwent surgery in February. Since then, he was under the supervision of the BCCI CoE (formerly the National Cricket Academy). He missed the second-leg of the Ranji Trophy for Kerala but recovered completely before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Or that’s what people expected. The medical staff at CoE weren’t 100% certain that Samson was ready to keep wickets. Therefore, RR made Dhruv Jurel the designated gloveman. Samson also handed the captaincy responsibility to Riyan Riyan and played as an impact substitute player for 3 matches.
After playing against the Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on March 30, Samson flew to Bengaluru to report to the CoE.
