John Daly’s golfing legacy has a new chapter.

John Daly II, the son of the two-time major champion, got his first collegiate victory on Monday at the Columbia Spring Invitational.

Daly II played his final five holes in 6 under to finish at 1-under 139, which was tied with two other golfers.

However, he would take home the medalist honor after a scorecard playoff at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.

Daly shot even-par in the first 18-hole round on Monday morning, and he was 5 over with five holes to play in his afternoon round.

The 21-year-old would finish 2-3-3-3-3 to get in at 1 under for the round – and tournament – tying Yale’s Matthew Lin and Dartmouth’s Tyler Brand, but the scorecard playoff went to Daly II.

Yale took home the team title, finishing at 7 over and four shots in front of Arkansas.

This season has been a good one for the younger Daly. He finished T-4 at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate and had a stroke average of 71.2 before his latest tournament.

In his last start, he tied for 37th at the Valspar Collegiate.

Daly II and his father teamed up to win the PNC Championship in 2021, beating Tiger and Charlie Woods by two shots.

While the senior Daly still plays golf semi-regularly, having played two tournaments in 2025, his son will hope to continue the legacy of their name on tour.

Daly picked up two majors in his career, winning the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship.

Along with his wins in the US, Daly has won pro events in South Africa, Swaziland, Scotland, Germany, South Korea, Turkey, and Canada.

In 1997, Daly became the first PGA Tour player to average more than 300 yards per drive over a full season.

He would achieve this feat again every year from 1999 to 2008 and was the only player to do so until 2003.

Daly also led the PGA Tour in driving distance 11 times from 1991 to 2002

Daly’s last PGA tour win came in 2004 in San Diego. After 2006, his career began to falter, with his places in tournaments since coming from past champion status and sponsor invitations.

The 58-year-old will not participate in the Masters this year and will likely never again, but it’ll be the younger Daly who will hope to be a part of the prestigious event in the future.
