RR vs CSK Hits & Flops: The Guwahati leg of IPL 2025 is over and Rajasthan Royals will return to their original home with a win and a sigh of relief. After two consecutive losses to start with, Rajasthan were at the bottom of the Points Table. But before Sanju Samson returned as the skipper, Riyan Parag would be happy to have a “W” in his IPL captaincy career.

While RR survived the Mahi Mania, winning by 6 runs against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings thanks to Nitish Rana and Wanindu Hasaranga but they would be worried about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form. Here are the Hits & Flops of RR vs CSK match in IPL 2025.

RR vs CSK: Hits

Dhoni-Ashwin combine again

MS Dhoni has made it three out of three. After his lightning-quick reflexes behind the stumps dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and Phil Salt in the first two games, Dhoni combined with Ravichandran Ashwin again to dismiss charging Nitish Rana. It was a moment of nostalgia for all the fans. Ashwin bowled a wide delivery as Nitish came down the track, and Dhoni made no mistake in uprooting the stumps. Rana was batting at 81 off 36 balls.

Nitish Rana: 81 off 36

Many had written off Nitish Rana. He did not have a good domestic season. But as it happens, every time you write someone off, they fight back. Rana, who endured a poor 2024 and scored 11 and 8 in the first two IPL 2025 matches, hit back. With RR losing Jaiswal in the first over and Sanju Samson struggling, Rana took matters into his own hands with a fluent 81-run knock off just 36 deliveries. He smashed 10 fours and five sixes. His knock helped RR post 182/9.

Wanindu Hasaranga: Magician returns

After missing IPL 2024 with an injury, the Sri Lankan spin magician returned to his best. Every time he was hit for a boundary or a six, he hit back with a wicket in the RR vs CSK match. Hasaranga bagged 4/35, which included crucial wickets of Rahul Tripathi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Vijay Shankar, and Shivam Dube. He single-handedly destroyed CSK’s middle-order.

Riyan Parag’s catch

It won’t be wrong to say that captain Riyan Parag is the Rajasthan Royals’ 4-D player. He can lead, he can bat and win matches, he can bowl and take stunning catches. In what could be the best catch of IPL 2025, Parag delivered a magic moment. As Shivam Dube tried to drive to the extra cover against Hasaranga, Parag dived and plucked the ball out of thin air.

Jofra Archer

From bowling the most expensive spell of IPL history to bowling an economical spell of 1/13 in three overs, Jofra Archer has come a long way in just three games. After a season of disappointment and an injury crisis, Archer returned to the IPL with 0/76 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But against CSK, he bowled one of his best spells of IPL. He bowled a maiden over, rattling Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi.

RR vs CSK: Flops

Dhoni not the finisher

The best finisher in the world is not the best anymore at 43 years of age. MS Dhoni could still pull off some stunning stumping, but he is not a reliable batter anymore. After massive criticism for sending Ashwin ahead of Dhoni, CSK sent Thala to finish the game against RR at No 7. Dhoni came to bat when CSK needed 54 runs off 25 balls. With Jadeja and Dhoni on the crease, it wasn’t an impossible task. But Dhoni could only hit a six and a four in his 11-ball 16-run stay. Dhoni failed to finish the game as he settled for six singles. Jadeja could not do it alone.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s sluggish fifty

Till the fifth over, CSK were going at less than a run a ball with Ruturaj Gaikwad batting at a 66.67 strike rate. By the end of the 10th over, the CSK captain was striking at 124 in a chase of 182. With a mountain to climb, Gaikwad continued his slow but steady approach. However, it did not help as he fell in the 16th over, scoring 63 off 44 with his half-century coming off 37 deliveries. Had he pulled off the chase, playing the anchor role, he could have been CSK’s hero. However, his slow-but-steady knock put pressure on the other batters as CSK failed to chase 183.

Ashwin: Not as effective anymore

Despite a moment of magic to dismiss Nitish Rana, Ashwin was expensive again, conceding 46 runs in exchange for the wicket. In Chennai, he conceded 22 in two overs for a wicket against RCB and 1/31 against MI. Ashwin is CSK’s key spinner but Noor Ahmad has done the heavy-lifting so far.

CSK’s batting

From opening to the end, Chennai’s batting never seemed comfortable in the chase. CSK could only score 42 runs in the powerplay despite chasing 182. Rahul Tripathi played a little better than the last two innings, but Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar and Rachin Ravindra all fell.

Yashasvi Jaiswal-Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals now have an opening problem. Yashasvi Jaiswal has a sudden dip in form after a wonderful 2024. He has scored 1, 29 and 4 in three innings of IPL 2025. His opening partner and Impact Player, Sanju Samson, has scored 66, 13 and 20. After that sluggish half-century in the opening match, Samson hasn’t looked comfortable while Jaiswal must find his form quickly. He is key to RR’s success and without his willow talking, RR won’t go far in IPL 2025.
