CBS has been rocked by the news that Gary Danielson plans to retire from the broadcast booth.
His retirement announcement comes hours after Jim Nantz’s declaration.

The college football analyst will retire at the end of the 2025 season.
He has been with CBS since 2006 having moved from ESPN.
Danielson, 73, worked with Verne Lundquist and Brad Nessler on CBS’s lead college football coverage.
Charles Davis has been tabbed as a replacement.
“I have had the greatest seat in the house for 36 years and have loved every minute of it,” Danielson said.
“I have discussed the timing of this moment with CBS Sports leadership over the past few years and we felt it was important I remained with the team during our transition to the Big Ten.
“As we enter our second full season of Big Ten football and my 20th at CBS Sports, the timing just feels right.
“I have so much respect for Charles Davis as both a person and an analyst.
“He is going to shine in this role and fit so well with this team.”
CBS Sports president David Berson added, “Gary Danielson is simply one of the greatest college football analysts ever.
“And an even better teammate.
“During his 20 years here, he helped propel CBS Sports to the gold standard in college football coverage.
“We can’t thank him enough; he will always be part of the CBS Sports family and wish him the best in retirement.”
The news of Danielson’s retirement came hours after Nantz made a decision over his own future.
Nantz is CBS’s lead NFL play caller and voice of The Masters golf tournament.
The competition will celebrate it’s 100th anniversary in 2036.
It is currently broadcast on ESPN and CBS.
And Nantz said, “If all the stars aligned, right now, it feels like a pretty good exit point: April 14, 2036.
“That is my scheduled retirement date. It would be a perfect place to walk out.”
