OAKLAND — Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murdering a Stockton resident in a December shooting, but he was released days later without charges, authorities said.

The 21-year-old Oakland man was arrested in connection with the Dec. 27 fatal shooting of Pablo Rincon, 27, who was killed around 9:30 p.m. on the 4000 block of Edwards Avenue. Police believe Rincon had been in an ongoing dispute with others, possibly related to jewelry, and that he had arranged to meet someone in the area.

A woman was also wounded in the shooting but survived, authorities said.

The suspect, arrested March 6 in his Oakland home, reportedly denied involvement in Rincon’s killing, and claimed to have been in Marin County that day. Police say they found a pistol in his home but excluded it as being involved in Rincon’s shooting.

The man did admit, though, to being involved in jewelry heists in Danville and San Francisco, and police say he was a suspect in a smash-and-grab robbery of a jewelry store in December 2023.

The homicide remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the homicide can call police investigators at 510-238-3821, or 510-238-7950. Videos and photos can be emailed to cidvideo@oaklandca.gov
