Texas Tech (3) vs Arkansas (10) preview

The Arkansas Razorbacks are coming off back-to-back upsets, beating No. 7 Kansas in the Round of 64 (79-72) and No. 2 St. John’s in the Round of 32 (76-66).

Now, they’ll take on a No. 3 seed in Texas Tech. Against St. John’s, Arkansas held the lead at halftime and outscored St. John’s 40-34 in the second half.

Billy Richmond III, Johnell Davis, and Karter Knox each had double-digit points. They shot 42.9% from the field, just 10.5% from 3-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 51-45.

As for Texas Tech, they’ve beaten No. 15 UNC Wilmington (82-72) and No. 11 Drake (77-64). Against Drake, Texas Tech held a 37-30 lead at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 40-34 in the second half.

JT Toppin and Darrion Williams combined for 53 points. Toppin also added 12 rebounds. The Red Raiders shot 53.8% from the floor and just 14.3% from 3-point range.

Texas Tech vs Arkansas analysis

Arkansas has certainly been hitting above their weight class through the first two rounds, beating Kansas and St. John’s. The offense is averaging 77.0 points per game.

The team is 65th in adjusted offensive efficiency, scoring 114.2 points per 100 possessions. The defense is solid, holding teams to 95.1 points per 100 possessions (17th).

Conversely, Texas Tech has a top-five offense in adjusted offensive efficiency with 125.4 points per 100 possessions. Defensively, they surrender 97.2 points per 100 possessions (37th).

The Red Raiders are one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country, shooting 37.1% (31st) from beyond the arc.

They’re also a better rebounding team than Arkansas, averaging 36.7 (79th) compared to 35.5 (134th) per game.

Texas Tech vs Arkansas pick

I think Texas Tech is the better team, but at 5.5 points, with the Razorbacks coached by John Calipari, it’s difficult to bet against them.

Arkansas’s defense is good enough to facilitate a cover or a potential win. They’ll need to slow Toppin and Williams down, who scored most of their points in the Round of 32.

I think they’ll get that done and cover this number.

Bet on Arkansas +5.5 (-104) at FanDuel
