PITTSBURGH Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly concluded as to who he wants at quarterback in the 2025 NFL season.
The Steelers have narrowed their focus to two big signal-caller names: Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.

But ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported over the weekend that the Steelers knew the meeting wouldn’t involve a signed deal but they wanted to show the four-time NFL MVP that he’s their No. 1 choice.
Pittsburgh is currently the top option for Rodgers and the report indicates that the franchise will pursue the 41-year-old, meaning that Wilson is a Plan B.
“I checked with a team source and said they’re aggressively pursuing this. [Rodgers] is number one on their radar. Russell Wilson is not totally off the list, but, they would like to try to make this happen,” Fowler added.
Another report mirrors Fowler’s reporting as Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed that Tomlin wants Rodgers as the quarterback for the Steelers.
“Mike Tomlin is the one who wants Rodgers, and apparently, the people in charge are not disagreeing,” Dulac revealed during a Q&A chat.
Rodgers has been linked with the Steelers, New York Giants, and Vikings.
But recent reports were uncovered that the Vikings won’t pursue Rodgers and will hand the keys to the offense to 2024 first-rounder JJ McCarthy, who missed last season with an injury.
The Giants, meanwhile, signed veteran Jameis Winston to a two-year contract last week but are still interested in Rodgers, the New York Post reported.
Rodgers is coming off of two disappointing seasons with the New York Jets.
As for the Steelers, they went 10-7 in 2024 and have made the playoffs in four of the past five seasons.
They were led by quarterback Justin Fields, who signed with the Jets earlier this month, and Wilson.
However, the Steelers suffered a collapse and lost their last five games.
They brought back 2018 third-round pick quarterback Mason Rudolph.
It seems that the Steelers prefer Rodgers over Wilson, who posted 16 passing touchdowns against five interceptions in 11 games in 2024.
The potential addition of Rodgers would give Tomlin a starting quarterback.
But fans shouldn’t expect a vintage Rodgers season.
He was cut by the Jets after a campaign in which he was 30th in completion percentage and 25th in total QBR.
