She played the round flanked by armed guards and was followed by supporters of Trump.
The teenager might have felt the pressure on her shoulders given the added attention.
Her nearest rival was six shots ahead after day one of the tournament.
Trump is hoping to make it as a professional golfer.
She will attend University of Miami to continue her career and studies.
The 17-year-old has 1.6 million followers on Instagram.
In recent weeks she has been spotted with the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Woods’ son Charlie is also playing in the tournament.
He also found himself in trouble after the opening round, shooting a six over par.
President Trump has taken a key role in trying to unify golf again.
He has brokered talks between the PGA Tour and Liv over a deal.
The rival tours agreed to unite in 2023 but a deal has yet to be struck.
Golf was torn apart when the Saudi-backed Liv series launched in 2022.
Some of the sport’s biggest stars such as Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson all moved over.

“Talks are real, they are substantial, they are being driven at the top level by both organisations.
“Those talks have been significantly bolstered by President Trump’s willingness to serve as a facilitator.
“President Trump believes in the game’s power and potential and he has been exceedingly generous with his time and influence to help bring a deal together.
“He wants to see the game reunified. We want to see the game reunified.
“His involvement has made the prospect of reunification very real.”
