(KRON) -- The Oakland Police Department said a woman who was assaulted and dragged into a vehicle in broad daylight — all captured on a witness's cell phone — has come forward to police.

Oakland PD said the woman identified herself as the individual in the video, and she has been offered victim services by police.

Police said the incident happened on March 4 just after 3:30 p.m. when a vehicle tried to hit the woman as she was walking in the 1800 block of 98th Avenue.

The suspect hopped out of the car and proceeded to punch the woman several times, "causing severe injuries," said Oakland police.

Investigators said the woman was forced into the car while she yelled that she was being kidnapped. The suspect vehicle then took off westbound on 98th Avenue to an unknown destination.

Police said the car was later recovered in East Oakland and is believed to be stolen.

“This does not appear to be a random incidence of kidnapping of a random young woman off the street,” said OPD Captain Nicholas Calonge in a news conference the week of the incident. “This does appear to be somehow personally motivated, and the investigators are keeping their minds open to any and all relationships that might come out of this.”

Anyone with information on this ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department.
