Steve Clarke’s men scored a 93rd minute winner in Warsaw to prevent what was looking to be a certain fourth-placed finish, and their reward was a two-legged play-off against a strong Greece side who won five of their six games in League B, only missing out on stop to Euro 2024 runners up England on head-to-head.
Republic of Ireland will also be looking to avoid dropping down a tier as they head to Plovdiv on Thursday as a third placed League B side taking on a second placed League C side.
Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side lost four of their six matches in the Nations League in the back end of 2024 against England and Greece, but managed to secure third place with two victories against Finland, while Bulgaria finished second in their group despite scoring only three goals in their six matches.
